How the interface development differentiates two types of service in the same app

Challenge: Playplus was the latest product developed by the multiplatform team of Record TV, its goal was to make accessible various content on video. But within the product, there were two services, independent videos, and movies. The challenge was to differentiate the two different services in the same app.

PlayPlus is a video marketplace focused on providing in a single app the option to consume content from multiple channels on a single subscription. As an evolution point of the project, a new segment has been added to the product which is the option to rent movies on demand. The main problem was to create a completely new product with another consumer experience in the same app that was already on the market.

Creating the navigation flow The first step was to create the interaction flows for each user context, which can be summarized as follows: - A new user who did not have any Playplus account; - A user who already has a Playplus account, but will make their first rental; - Recurring User who will only continue to use the movie rental service.

Interface layout as a solution

Another important point was the differentiation between the movie platform and the traditional PlayPlus. One solution that became very efficient in the tests was the application of a dark mode UI when the app passed to the movie environment. But still maintaining the identity characteristics of the standard app.

Catalog navigation

For the navigation of the catalog, a flow was created that passes through the page of the film with all the information and the trailers of the film for the choice. For large franchises, the marathon format was created making available the rental of a package of related films. It is still possible to create a customized list to create your own marathon.

Payment process

The rental process is as short as possible since the registration is complete the rental only requires confirmation of choice. And for iOS devices was created the rental flow via in-app purchases.
